Yaz Lawsuit Lawyers

How do you know if you have a Yasmin Lawsuit?

Yasmin, also known as Yaz, is a top selling oral contraceptive that has found itself within the clutches of scrutiny and of lawsuits recently. As it stands, there are already a number of lawsuits against Bayer, the pharmaceutical company that manufactures Yasmin, and these lawsuits are taking place in a number of states.

What has led to these lawsuits?

Despite Yasmin’s ability to prevent pregnancy through the unique ingredients drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol, Yasmin has been associated with a number of life-threatening and serious side effects. These side effects include:

  • Blood clots
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Depression and other emotional disorders
  • Heart attack
  • Migraines
  • Liver damage
  • Hypertension
  • High cholesterol
  • Stroke
  • Pulmonary embolism

Because of advertising that did not disclose that there are more severe risks than the usual side effects that accompany birth control pills, The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ordered the makers of Yasmin to change their marketing campaign and their marketing must be approved by the FDA before being released to the public.

Those filing lawsuits against Bayer are those who have had a loved one die from one of the above side effects, or they have been affected themselves. The women affected must show the severity of the injuries that they received while taking Yasmin to their lawyers. However, there is a decision to be made as to whether or not to file an individual lawsuit or to join a lawsuit.

An individual lawsuit is more for those who want to be heavily involved in the legal process and are willing to win more or less compensation than other women who have filed lawsuits against the pharmaceutical company. Those wishing to join a lawsuit desire to be less involved in the legal process and are fine with having compensation divided amongst them and the other plaintiffs.

If you have been harmed by Yasmin in any way, you may wish to seek out the assistance of a lawyer in order to determine if you are better suited for a lawsuit or filing a lawsuit on your own. However, it is important to keep in mind that the Yasmin lawsuits could be consolidated at any time due to a July 2009 motion filed with the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation to consolidate all 32 federal cases involving Yasmin and its side effects.

As for what the cases allege, they allege that the ingredient drospirenone works against the body’s ability to balance salt and water. This can cause the potassium level within the body to elevate and, in turn, can cause a number of health issues that include heart problems.

If the side effects you have experienced are beyond dizziness, headaches, a decreased sex drive, nausea and vomiting, and weight gain. The side effects in question are those that cause life threatening conditions or death. So evaluate your situation and seek out the help of an attorney if your symptoms are not the usual symptoms.

Yasmin Birth Control Lawyer

It seems that more and more women are reporting health issues that have occurred while taking the popular birth control pill, Yasmin. As more complications are discovered, more lawsuits are being filed. This means more lawyers are looking into the studies and other research that shows Yasmin has been known to cause various side effects that can lead to even more serious conditions.

So how does Yasmin cause so much trouble that a Yasmin birth control lawyer is needed?

The first is the fact that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had to tell the Bayer Corporation to pull their marketing campaign because the campaign stated that Yasmin had a broad range of uses without serious side effects and many of these uses were not FDA approved. Those uses included:

  • Keeping mild acne under control
  • Managing PMS
  • Relieving bloating
  • Relieving muscle aches
  • Relieving fatigue
  • Managing moodiness
  • Keeping increased appetite at bay
  • Reducing irritability

However there has been research conducted on drospirenone, the main and unique ingredient in Yasmin, that shows it raises the level of potassium in the blood. When potassium elevates, it causes the salt/water balance within the body to become unbalanced. This can then lead to circulatory and heart problems that include:

The FDA has looked over these studies and has yet to issue a recall of Yasmin. At the moment, the FDA is monitoring the advertising campaigns of Yasmin. The Bayer Corporation must gain FDA approval before releasing new advertising campaigns so that misleading information is not released to the public. But as it stands, Yasmin is still being sold without all of the disclosures that it needs to have and this is another reason why many seek out a Yasmin birth control lawyer. The fact that women are at risk is not disclosed to them before taking the pill. This can be dangerous, especially when a woman is aware that she has a condition, but not aware that taking Yasmin could make matters worse.

The only individuals who seem to be warned are those who are over 35 and those who smoke. The disclosure states that these women are at a higher risk of developing blood clots. What is not elaborated on is the fact that these blood clots can become DVT or PE and later result in sudden death, especially if untreated. Even when treated, there will still be issues.

So if you have taken Yaz and you’re having severe health problems, you can speak to a Yasmin birth control lawyer. Provide them with all of the information that you have so that the lawyer can determine if you have a possible case. If they feel that there is potential for a case, then they will move on to the discovery phase to find enough evidence. You may decide to file your own lawsuit or join a lawsuit. As it stands there are over 30 cases in federal court and that number is expected to grow if it has not already.

Yasmin Birth Control Attorney

The Yasmin birth control attorney is becoming busier these days with more and more women and loved ones of women, stating that Yasmin has caused them a serious health condition or that sudden death has occurred due to a pulmonary embolism (PE) or other condition.

What the Yasmin birth control attorney will do is evaluate the situation. Those looking to file a lawsuit against the Bayer Corporation needs to provide a copy of the diagnosis and of the prognosis. A doctor may also be able to determine if Yasmin was the cause if provided with the right information and if the right tests are conducted. All of this information needs to be provided to the attorney so that the attorney can determine the viability of the case.

As for the conditions that constitute a lawsuit are:

There are a number of conditions that can result and it is alleged that it all begins with the drospirenone, which is the main ingredient in Yasmin. The drospirenone can lead to elevated potassium levels in the blood and this then leads to issues in the circulatory system that can affect other parts of the body. For instance, deep vein thrombosis in the legs or arms can lead to clots moving from the limbs to an artery in the lungs. An individual may cough up blood, have difficulty breathing, have heart palpitations, and a number of other symptoms. If the symptoms are not recognized and the embolism is not treated, sudden death can occur. However, those who are treated will continue to have complications. This is an example of when to seek out a Yasmin birth control attorney.

The milder side effects, such as nausea and vomiting are not grounds for a lawsuit. These are the types of side effects that are disclosed and it is actually rare that they occur. It is said that more severe side effects are rare, but they seem to be appearing more and more often, meaning more women are finding themselves in the office of a Yasmin birth control attorney.

However, know that a Yasmin birth control attorney will evaluate all of the details surrounding your situation. If the attorney declares that you have grounds for a lawsuit, you may be given two options. The first option is to file your own lawsuit. This can work if you want to be heavily involved in the legal process. The second option is to enter into a class. There are a number of states that have lawsuits against the Bayer Corporation regarding Yasmin side effects. If you choose to enter the class, you will be less involved in the legal process and are saying that you are okay with a fair distribution of the winnings, if compensation is awarded.

Whatever you decide to do, tell your Yasmin birth control attorney. That way you are able to be compensated like you deserve to be. Call the McEwen Law Firm today at 800-732-3070 for a free consultation.

Yasmin Side Effects

Yasmin, also known as Ocella, Yasmin, and Yaz, is one of the most popular birth control pills on the market since 2001. It is not only popular because it prevents ovulation, but also causes changes in the uterine lining and the cervix that makes fertilization much more difficult and also makes it harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. Yasmin is also used in females 14 and older to treat acne and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), as well as other conditions in which doctor discretion may be used.

However, it must be noted that this very unique birth control pill that has been touted by some as a “miracle pill” comes with side effects. Some of these side effects have been known to be anywhere from mild to severe. Some of the more severe symptoms are usually not disclosed to women taking Yasmin, but the mild symptoms usually are.

The mild symptoms that are usually disclosed are:

• Tenderness, swelling, or pain in the breasts.

• Hair loss, increased hair growth, or darkening of freckles and skin on the face.

• Vaginal discharge and itching.

• Difficulty wearing contact lenses.

• Changes in the menstrual cycle.

What sets Yasmin apart from other birth control pills is through the use of the chemical drospirenone (DRSP). This makes it chemically different than other birth control pills on the market. However, it has been found that this is an ingredient that raises the potassium level in the body, which can become dangerous for those who have diabetes, high blood pressure, or who are obese. But some of the more severe side effects are not linked to those conditions, but occur in women who appear to be perfectly healthy.

The more severe Yaz side effects that are usually disclosed are:

• Numbness, weakness, or confusion. One may also experience a sinus-like headache that can also lead to speech, balance, and vision problems.

• Migraine headaches that may change in severity and pattern.

• Chest pain and nausea may suddenly develop.

• Breast lumps that suddenly appear, as do stomach pain, jaundice (skin or eyes become yellowish in color), or loss of appetite.

• Mood changes, depression, or changes in sleep pattern.

A doctor may discuss these symptoms with their patient before prescribing Yasmin. However, these side effects are also listed within the documentation that accompanies each package of pills.

But what has not been disclosed is that Yasmin has recently encountered problems that have been linked to even more serious side effects than what are listed above. These side effects include:

• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) – This is a blood clot within a deep vein, usually in the legs, the pelvis, and sometimes the arms. This is a very painful condition that can lead to a pulmonary embolism (PE) and can ultimately cause death in some cases, if not cause further painful complications.

• Pulmonary embolism (PE) – This blockage of the pulmonary artery is usually a result of deep vein thrombosis. One will experience complications when breathing, heart palpitations, and chest pain. If left untreated, PE can cause circulatory issues, collapse, and even sudden death.

• Stroke – Blood clots that may form as a result of using Yasmin can disrupt blood flow to the brain and cause a significant loss in brain function. This clot can also be a result of DVT.

• Heart attack – Again, blood clots can be a cause. However, other changes that occur within the body can result in changes in the heart.

• Death – If a problem is undetected or becomes so severe that treatment is unable to stabilize it, death can occur. Such as in the case of a PE, death can be sudden without any warning whatsoever.

Although there has been no official Yasmin recall by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Bayer AG has been notified that their advertising campaigns were misleading regarding side effects. As a result, Bayer AG has been ordered to modify their ad campaigns. The pharmaceutical company must also receive FDA approval before releasing new ad campaigns in the United States. This decision is the result of several lawsuits being filed by those affected by undisclosed side effects. At least one of those lawsuits is a federal lawsuit that is alleging that these Yasmin side effects are responsible for several deaths.
